Now You Tell Me! 12 Army Wives Book Review & Giveaway

Now You Tell Me! 12 Army Wives Book Review & Giveaway

When I married Hubs, I knew NOTHING about military life.  I did not understand deployments, his crazy work schedule or even what PCS meant.  I wish that when Hubs deployed a few days after we said “I Do”, I would have had someone to talk to that understood and could have shared their knowledge with me.  Not a formal conversation, but like a good friend to sit down and have a cup of coffee with while explaining a lot of new things to me.
That is what this book is like!  Now you tell me!  12 Army Wives Give The Best Advice They Never Got is like sitting down with a group of women who have been through it all and having them share their advice and knowldege.

The 12 women are a diverse group of ladies, women who were stay at home moms, to career minded women with advanced degrees and active duty women as well.  From spouses of Enlisted Soldiers to spouses of Officers, it is amazing how much their stories are alike.  They share their stories, experiences, laughter and tears in an easy to read book.  There are also great resources at the end of the book, like abbreviation guides.

Army Unit Size and Description

I chose to share this snippit from the book because it si something I find myself explaining at least once a month, every month.  It is easy to get them confused at first!  Brigade/Battalion which one is bigger?  Myself, from my own experience, I find it easier to remember them by associating them with things from everyday life.  It took me a while to find a way to remember it for myself:

  • Squad is like the block I live on.
  • Platoon is like the neighborhood I live in.
  • Company is like the section of town I live in.
  • Battalion is more like the city.
  • Brigade is like the county I live in.
  • Division is bigger than the Brigade so it is like the state I live in.
  • Corps is like the country I live in.  Because is is made up of several Divisions, which each have several Brigades etc.

When I sat down to read this book, I finished it in a single day.  I could not put it down!  I could identify with each of the women in one aspect of their lives or another.  It is amazing that even though different decades and wars so many military spouses can share the same experiences.  I am so glad I had the chance to read this book, I only wish it would have been written years ago!
